Cardiff City manager Dave Jones also jumped in on the calls to allow away fans at the Welsh derby at the Liberty

After weekend reports suggesting that Cardiff fans could be banned from the Liberty, Jones joined representatives of both sides in calling for away fans to be allowed to attend the fixture.

Speaking via Cardiff's official website, the Cardiff manager said "We went to Wolves a few years ago with no fans and the atmosphere was awful. It was absolutely dead.

"Fans have a responsibility to behave at a local derby. We shouldn't stop our fans from watching us away from home. I don't want to get into the politics of it, but fans should not be stopped from travelling as long as it's all done correctly. The police seem to be in control of everything, and we have new facilities at our stadium.

"Our away support is absolutely awesome - it's up there with the best. We took 800 to Sheffield on Saturday even after 4,000 went to Villa in midweek. We had 3,000 at Reading. It costs them a lot of money and they are absolutely brilliant."

Cardiff Chairman Peter Risdale also added to his comments earlier in the day when he said  "Swansea fans will be welcome when their team plays at Cardiff. My view is that football is about two teams and two sets of supporters. The minute you start banning away supporters it's the thin edge of the wedge and next you'd be banning the away team from turning up.

"We've got to be able to police football matches in safety. The more we suggest that these fixtures are un-policeable, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

"I'm not happy with the way costs are passed on to football clubs. You go to restaurants and pubs in a city centre on a Saturday night and they are not charged additional money for policing. I don't see why sporting events should be either. We pay enough in rates and taxes to local authorities."
