Huw Jenkins believes that Roberto Martinez deserves the Swans respect at Wigan tomorrow night

The Swansea City Chairman was talking about one of his former managerial appointments who quit the club 16 months ago to take over at Wigan.

And now the two sides come face to face on Tuesday in the Carling Cup with a place in the quarter finals at stake for the winning side.

Over 4000 Jacks will make the trip with many never having forgiven Roberto for ripping the heart out of the club when he departed the Swans and are certain to make their feelings known at the DW Stadium

But Huw believes that Roberto deserves a good reception from the Swans fans as he explained via the club's official website "From my personal point of view, Roberto deserves a good reception

"Like the respect the Reading fans showed to Brendan (Rodgers) when he went back to Madejski Stadium last week.

"This football club has come a long way in the last 10 years and we've all got to realise that managers and players will keep moving on to different clubs, for whatever reason.

"It's part and parcel of modern football. We should all be big enough to accept this and be grateful for what they did for us, whether that's Roberto or anyone else.

"As a football club we will always survive and hopefully keep growing and improving.

"I know a lot of people were disappointed when Roberto left, but my relationship with him is still good and we talk regularly. You have to build and maintain relationships in this business if you want the football club to get stronger and stronger - which we are.

"As far as I am concerned, everyone at Swansea City should be wishing Roberto and all his staff every success for the future - after Tuesday night, of course.

"You can't take away what he achieved for this football club as a player or a manager. Our aim over the next few years is to join him in the Premier League and give our fans a game like Tuesday's week in week out.

"To take 4,500 fans to Wigan on a Tuesday night is amazing. It makes me very proud to be chairman of this football club and I'm sure every one of them will get fully behind Brendan and the boys.''
