Brendan Rodgers is happy to be under the promotion radar - despite more wins than anyone else

Not even Manchester United can match the Swansea City tally of league wins this season - Tuesday's success at Coventry was their 18th triumph of the season.

But despite those impressive stats there are few pundits tipping the second placed Swans for promotion and Brendan is more than happy to be in that position.

“We’ve gone under the radar,” he told the Western Mail.

“We were coming back on bus after the Coventry game listening to Sky Sports and it said QPR won 2-0, and they are now six points ahead of third-placed Cardiff.

“And that typifies the coverage that Swansea get.

“QPR weren’t five points ahead of second-placed Swansea, they were six points ahead of third-placed Cardiff.

“In my short time here I understand what goes on.

“But we are happy to stay under the radar if come May 8 we pop out and they only then start to recognise that we’ve done OK.

“It validates our philosophy and that’s what pleases me as much as anything,” said Rodgers.

“I’m on a personal crusade in terms of showing that you can play football and be successful.

“The only way you can do that is by winning games.

“I’ve heard stories for many years that you can’t play football and get out of this league.

“Hopefully the success over the last few years shows that you can do that, but you have to be strong in your principles and stay with it.

“It’s fantastic and we hope for many more.

“This game won’t define where we end, but it will certainly play a big part,” said Rodgers.

“We had a good game against them up there, I felt we deserved more, but had a spell of eight minutes where we conceded goals. But we are a better side now.

“I don’t even think about it (promotion), it’s too far away.

“If you look too far ahead your mind starts to wander and you are already on the bus parade.

“It’s my job to keep calm. But you have to plan. It’s not being arrogant.

“I’ve had a chat with the chairman about the Premier League push because we are in an excellent position, but we obviously don’t have the clout and the money.

“But we are comfortable where we are at because the mentality is strong.

“We have a plan which we are working on if we do go up. I always say if you are unplanned you will be unlucky.

“You have to plan ahead so that if we were lucky enough for it to happen we know what does it look like.

“And also what it looks like if we don’t and we have to make another challenge.

“It’s something you have to prepare for.”
