Pearson Denies move for Leeds
Pearson Denies move for Leeds

The latest in the club’s long-running ownership saga is that Adam Pearson has denied the reports that he is heading a consortium, as he wants to concentrate of Rugby League for the time being.

Only last month Pearson was saying “I will definitely get back into football. I would like to go in with a consortium with a club that has huge potential. The one that stands out is Leeds United.” And only days later GFH Capital announced they had turned down a bid for a controlling stake in the club, which was believed to be from a consortium headed by Pearson and backed by some Saudi investors.

But today 49 year-old Pearson told the Yorkshire Post “It’s a funny one because Hull FC is mine. I own the club, it’s my baby and I want to grow and develop it. Football is my business and I’ll always get rumours and connections in football as that’s my industry”.

“Leeds is a club that I live close to and I’ve worked there before so I understand how big a club it is but at this minute in time, it’s not for me. My focus is completely on Hull FC and my other business interests. There’ll be no movement to Elland Road in the near future. This is my complete focus and so I’d like to squash those rumours once and for all. I’ve not made a single comment in the press about it and all my focus and financial backing is on this club.”

All of which is disappointing, as it’s become clear in the last few months that GFH are struggling to find the resources we need to take the club forward, and we could certainly do with the cash injection that rumoured Pearson bid would have provided.

But GFH themselves have said that they would welcome further investment, albeit from anyone who would allow them to keep a significant shareholding so they can claim a portion of the riches should we get back into the Premier League. We can but hope that these public statements are just posturing by GFH and Pearson while both parties try to negotiate the best deal for themselves , and that the investment is still going to happen.
