No Joy For Swans As Arsenal Win
Sunday, 29th Sep 2013 18:09

The Swans were beaten by Arsenal at the Liberty Stadium 2-1 allowing our visitors to move back to the top of the Premier League on another night of frustration at the Liberty Stadium

Ben Davies' late goal was nothing more than a consolation for the Swans after two goals in four minutes in the early stages of the second half turned the game in the visitors favour.

In truth, stats wise, there was little between the two teams but yet again the Swans were shown by a team with a bigger cutting edge the difference between dominating games stats wise and scoring goals - the latter of course being the one that actually decided who takes home the points at the end of the ninety minutes.

Jonjo Shelvey's early shot was in reality the best chance the Swans had in a first half that they appeared to dominate but when you are on top you have to create chances and it seemed that Arsenal were happy to sit back and let the Swans dominate possession and wait for the chances that they suspected would come.

The first half therefore largely passed by with neither goalkeeper really called upon to make a save that you would have said wasn't routine and a goalless first half was of no real surprise when the half time whistle came.

It was Gnarby who was to prove the man to break the deadlock when he shot home having been played him by Aaron Ramsey and it was Ramsey himself who grabbed the second four minutes later when his shot found the back of the net.

The Swans were 2-0 down almost within the blink of an eye and the game was looking beyond them as they made the changes that they hoped would make the difference and a neat one two between Davies and Bony gave the defender the chance to volley home and set up a possibly tense finish to the game.

However, it was the only threat the Swans had and Arsenal closed out the game with quite an ease and give them a club record twelfth successive away win and a two point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

For the Swans it means they are yet to record a league success at the Liberty so far this season but there will be easier tasks for them then their three opponents to date and it's onward to St Gallen and Southampton now as we enter a couple of months that have a list of games that look very winnable.
