It’s United in the cup but will Lee Camp be around to see it? News round up
It’s United in the cup but will Lee Camp be around to see it? News round up

QPR’s reward for a win at Aston Villa in the League Cup is a fourth round tie at Manchester United, meanwhile Lee Camp may look elsewhere for first team football.

It certainly doesn’t get any easier for QPR in the League Cup, drawn way for the third round out of four and this time facing the European Champions in their own back garden. Both teams disposed of Premiership opposition in the last round, United were beating Middlesbrough while QPR were winning at Villa Park. This time last season Iain Dowie took a Coventry City side to Old Trafford and won, which bodes well.

Assistant manager Tim Flowers said: “It’s fantastic for the football club and especially those supporters that travel the length and breadth of the country to support us.”

The tie will probably be played on Tuesday November 11 at 7.45pm with Spurs v Liverpool and Arsenal’s crèche against Wigan the likely televised games.

Whether goalkeeper Lee Camp is in the matchday squad for that match remains to be seen. Camp has only started one match this season, at Swindon in the first round of the cup, and remained on the bench on Saturday despite Radek Cerny’s somewhat erratic performances. Camp initially came to QPR on loan in search of first team football of course and is unlikely to wait around for a chance at QPR much longer – he would be willing to make a similar loan move again but offers are yet to be forthcoming.

Camp told the London Informer last week: "I'd really like to play football - it's as simple as that. It's fantastic the way the football club is going. It's geared for success, but I'm someone who doesn't like to sit around not doing anything. I like to work in the week and have a game on Saturday, and I want to be number one not number two. There are some goalkeepers who are happy to just sit there, be a number two and pick their money up - but that's not me."

Elsewhere Flavio Briatore moved quickly at the weekend to deny a report in the Daily Mail, Charles Sale again in case you were wondering, that the board is considering changing the name of QPR to Queens Park City in some twisted logic to do with becoming more connected with London.

Briatore said: “This is pure fabrication and I do not know where this story has come from. I haven’t spoken to anybody about this subject. I don’t know the journalist but I know this story is totally untrue and we will be contacting our lawyers to pursue this matter further. I can categorically deny that there is any truth in this article.”

Akos Buzsaky has been speaking to Sky Sports about his recent return from knee surgery.

Buzsaky said: “"It was a great thing for me to feel the atmosphere of a game. My injured knee is perfect now. I have a little problem with my stamina but it's better than a couple of weeks ago, it will take time until I reach my old physical condition. Maybe it sounds strange but I feel I have been lucky. I was injured in March and while I have been recovering there has been a summer break so I was only without football for two-and-a-half months and have returned early in the new season.

"I'll prove that I am a decent footballer as I cannot afford to miss any more opportunities to help my development. There are 10 midfielders at the club, and they have only signed good players, but I believe our squad should finish in the top four and challenge for promotion."

Finally the home match with Wolves on Saturday December 6 will now kick off at 5.20pm after being selected for live coverage by Sky. Wolves have 22 points from eight games so far this season and are yet to be beaten, they currently top the table three points ahead of Birmingham who QPR play live on Sky this coming Saturday.
