Middlesbrough player ratings vs Nottingham Forest
Wednesday, 20th Jan 2021 21:05 by Phil Spencer

Middlesbrough recorded a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

It was the Teessiders who took the lead when Britt Assombalonga converted from close range after some fine work from Jonny Howson.

A dominant first half display preserved their lead, before an early second-half strike from George Saville doubled Middlesbrough's advantage.

Loic Mbe Soh did pull one back in the dying moments but Warnock's side will be more than happy with the victory that moves them a step closer to the play-offs.

Here's how we rated the Middlesbrough team.

Marcus Bettinelli — 7
Had precious little to do but handled anything he did have with ease.

Anfernee Dijksteel -7
Put in a solid performance at right-back as he nullified any threat that came down the flank.

Dael Fry — 8
Made some crucial interceptions and covered for Anfernee Dijksteel on occasions. Another performance that showed how comfortable he is at moving out of defence with the ball.

Paddy McNair — 8
Defensively sound all caused allsorts of problems with his set piece delivery. A match which seemed to play into his hands completely.

Marc Bola — 7
Another good display as he provided value in both defence and attack. Made a wonderful clearance at the end of the first half.

Sam Morsy — 7
Picked up a silly booking early on but put in a good display. Tough in the tackle but enjoyed the freedom of breaking out of midfield to join the attack.

George Saville — 8
Put in a very disciplined display which helped his teammates against a dangerous Forest side. Played in a more advanced role and got his reward with a goal after the break.

Jonny Howson — 9
Immediately justified his recall to the first team with a typical display. Even set up Britt Assombalonga's first half goal with a fine pass.

Marcus Tavernier — 8
Just seems to be getting better and better at the moment. A dominant display on the right flank as he cut inside and caused Samba Sow allsorts of problems.

Duncan Watmore — 7
A really good display. Just seems to set the bar for tempo and work rate when he's in the team which makes him an automatic starter in my book.

Britt Assombalonga — 7
Did very well to finish his opportunity early on and could have had more as the match progressed. If he can perform like this every week then he'll undoubtedly be Middlesbrough's first choice attacker.

Substitutes

Marvin Johnson —7
Looked dangerous after his introduction and caused plenty of problems down the flank. Went close with a decent effort from a tight angle.

Djed Spence—N/A
Not on the field long enough to make a real impact.
