Norwich City 0-0 Middlesbrough: Match Report
Saturday, 30th Jan 2021 14:25 by Phil Spencer

Middlesbrough came away from Carrow Road with a well-deserved point after playing out a 0-0 draw with Norwich City.

The result will be seen as a point gained against the Championship's runaway leaders.

It was the hosts who had the first main opportunity of the game as Mario Vrancic wriggled away from Middlesbrough's midfield and slotted an effort just wide of the mark.

The Canaries dominated possession during the early stages with the Teessiders working on the counter to try and catch the league leaders out.

Yannick Bolasie led the line for Warnock's side and cut an isolated figure for long spells, but did send a headed effort wide of the mark during the first half.

He then squeezed his way into the box before sending an effort wide of the mark.

The 31-year-old's movement was causing all sorts of problems for Norwich and that led to a spell of pressure at the end of the first half that saw the visitors go close to taking the lead.

The second half started in much the same way as Cantwell drove at the Middlesbrough defence and pulled his effort wide of the mark.

However the tide slowly started to turn as the visitors pushed forward and caused problems with Paddy McNair, Marvin Johnson and George Saville causing problems down the left side.

Saville was at the centre of a key moment midway through the half as he was on the receiving end of a bad challenge from Emi Buendia that saw him sent off.

From that point on it only looked like being Middlesbrough who would get a winner with Howson and Marc Bola both having half chances to get on the scoresheet.

But instead it was a game that ended in a stalemate - a result that Neil Warnock will no doubt be delighted with after a tricky run of results.
