Middlesbrough player ratings vs Huddersfield
Tuesday, 16th Feb 2021 22:53 by Matthew Hunter

Middlesbrough ended their lengthy winless run with a priceless 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town.

After going behind in the first half goals from Duncan Watmore and Ashley Fletcher put Neil Warnock's side into the lead before the break.

A red card for Paddy McNair made for a nervy finale but it was three valuable points for the Teessiders.

Here's how we rated Warnock's side.

Marcus Bettinelli —6
Some unconvincing moments with a goal kick straight for a throw but made some important saves second half

Darnell Fisher-7
Utilised on the right often and had a great run to win the pen. Looked eager to get to the ball first a few times.

Anfernee Dijksteel —6
Not a great involvement tonight but added support to the back three. Cleaned up a good break from Huddersfield’s Phillips.

Grant Hall-6.
Strong in the air with a couple of headed chances. Almost had his goal if it wasn’t for the flag

Paddy McNair —4
Good set piece delivery and drives from the back. Unnecessary challenge on the edge of the box lead to a nervy ending with his sending off.

Marc Bola —7
Gave away cheap foul on the edge that led to their goal but constantly looked to get balls whipped into the box and had a decent bulldozing run second half.

Sam Morsy —5
Tried to make things happen and broke up play well. Clumsy foul earned him a yellow.

Jonny Howson —6
Solid but expected performance from tonight’s captain.

Neeskens Kebano —6
Didn’t have a great deal of the ball but shown glimpses of brilliance when he did. His acute cross won the pen.

Duncan Watmore—8
Boro’s standout player. Made constant dogged runs at the opposition, refusing to give up the ball. Outstanding move to get himself the equaliser.

Ashley Fletcher—7
Good physical presence with a few flick-ons. Squeezed home the penalty which eventually won Boro the game.

Substitutes

Djed Spence—5
Decent clearance when under the cosh.

George Saville-N/A

Marvin Johnson—5
On to tighten the defence after McNair’s sending off. Nearly set up Akpom at the death which would have written off Huddersfield.

Chuba Akpom—N/A
