Steve Bloomer Memorial Restored

After two resounding home wins this week there was further good news for Derby County fans, with the restoration of the Cradley monument to the club’s greatest player, Steve Bloomer.

The monument, erected in 1996 on Bridge Street B63 (where Steve was born in 1874) had been uprooted and stolen in mid-July but was recovered a few days later.

RamsTrust were invited to the site on Wednesday 29th September, alongside members of the Cradley Then & Now Heritage Project, to mark the occasion of the tribute’s restoration.

The arrangements were given at very short notice but RamsTrust were honoured to be there to represent Derby County supporters.

The trust was also able to notify Bloomer relatives Steven Richards and Richard Quantrill that Bloomer’s monument had been refurbished and remounted in advance of the gathering, though neither were able to attend.

RamsTrust will be reunited with their T & N friends again on Saturday, 2nd October at Cradley Day 2010, the town’s heritage celebration, which is staged every two years. It takes place this year at Cradley Community Centre on Colley Lane B63 and admission is free.
