Middlesbrough player ratings: Grant Hall head and shoulders above the rest against Coventry City
Tuesday, 2nd Mar 2021 21:08 by Phil Spencer

Middlesbrough secured a 2-1 victory against Coventry City on Tuesday evening.

An early long-throw led to an opener for the Sky Blues before a free-kick late in the first half led Grant Hall to head home.

The second half saw a slightly improved performance from the Teessiders and they ultimately got their reward when George Saville converted late on to grab all three points.

Here's how we rated the Teessiders.

Marcus Bettinelli —6 Didn't have a huge amount to do but coped well with what was thrown at him.

Anfernee Dijksteel —6 Fairly solid but credited with an own goal for Coventry's effort in the first half.

Dael Fry-7. A powerful presence in central defence as he put his head where it hurt and dominated in the air.

Grant Hall -8 Man of the match, in my opinion. Dominated at the back with a powerful display and got his reward with an excellent headed goal. Is really finding his feet at Middlesbrough - long may it continue.

Marc Bola —6 An average display. Did what was asked of him but lacked quality in the final third.

Paddy McNair —5 Not his best game for Middlesbrough as he struggled to dictate play and hold onto possession.

Jonny Howson —7 A really quiet first half as the game sort of passed him by. Much better in the second half and really found his flow late on as he played a key role in helping Middlesbrough into the lead.

Djed Spence-5 Largely ineffective. He'll be really disappointed not to make more of his opportunity.

Marcus Tavernier —7 Showed moments of real quality but just lacked the final ball needed to make a difference. A decent display though from someone who is still working back to fitness.

Neeskens Kebano-7 Looked dangerous when he got on the ball. Often stifled by the lack of movement around him but still played well.

Chuba Akpom-6 Worked hard in attack but had little in the way of clear-cut chances. A little bit isolated - a problem that he's had for much of the season.

Substitutes

Marvin Johnson—8 Made a real difference after coming on. A positive and threatening presence down the left flank and played a big role in turning the tide in the game.

Duncan Watmore-6 Worked tirelessly after his introduction. Didn't have much of the ball but certainly put the defence under pressure.

Yannick Bolasie-6 Great to see him back on the pitch. Didn't have much of a chance to impress but will be glad to be back out there.

George Saville-7 Had a dream introduction after finding the back of the net within minutes of coming onto the pitch.
