Boro Women shine in dominant 3-0 victory over Redcar Town Ladies
Monday, 5th Jul 2021 15:01 by Ben Watts

Fans back, 3 goals, 3 points. What’s not to love about a fantastic performance to comprehensively beat Redcar Town Ladies?

The team set up in a rather fluid system which dropped into a 5-2-3 when defending. It was a really bright start from the team who tested the keeper 3 times in the opening few minutes.

However, the mood was suddenly dampened as Millie Bell picked up a painful injury and had to be helped off the pitch (wishing you a speedy recovery Millie!). But her misfortune allowed Savanna Robson to come onto the pitch to put in a fantastic effort down the left hand side as a pacy, skillful winger.

Not long after Bell’s injury the new skipper Rebecca Olley had a shot from distance deflected past the keeper and it was 1-0 to the Boro.

The team continued to look dangerous with Molly Holder spraying some lovely passes and dictating the tempo of the game. This continued for most of the half with Redcar’s attempts to play direct being cut out by the brilliant duo of Emily Cassidy and Abby Towers who looked dominant throughout.

And this dominance eventually prevailed as Savanna’s sister Lauren Robson scored a screamer into the top left hand corner from outside the box leaving the keeper with no chance. And it remained 2-0 till half-time.

Five subs were made at half-time allowing several players to get a run-out. To accommodate these changes Emily Cassidy moved into midfield and continued her solid display in the centre of the park.

More brilliant play from the team allowed Savanna Robson and Armani Maxwell to test the keeper again but they were both denied.

Eventually, Maxwell got the goal that her performance deserved, tapping home after a scramble in the box following a corner; and that’s how the game ended. 3-0 to the Boro when the whistle blew.

As far as I’m concerned, the Woman of the match was Emily Cassidy who never looked troubled defensively; however honorable mentions to 17 year old Abby Towers, Molly Holder and Savanna Robson who all put in stellar performances.

UTBW!
