Celtic To Swoop As Rangers Reject Commons Demands!

It seems talks over Kris Commons proposed move to Rangers have broken down with the Glasgow club baulking at his wage demands. Now it seems Celtic will attempt to lure him away from the Rams and Ibrox.

Yesterday after recent denials from DCFC that they had received any offers for Commons, Gers manager Walter Smith held a press conference at which he admitted amongst other things, that the club had opened talks with Derby.

Various sources are reporting that Rangers, although cashed up from the sale of Kenny Miller, were not prepared to pay the Rams asking price of £500,000 plus meet Commons hefty wage demands which are believed to be around £20,000 per week

Derby have wanted to keep Commons at Pride Park but if you believe what you read it seems they stalled at an offer of around £15,000 per week for the player.

The breakdown in negotiations may have looked like a chance for Derby to push home the fact to Kris that they aren’t the only ones who believe he is not worth 20k per week. However Celtic, who have been linked to Commons for longer than any other club, reportedly declared their interest officially today.

The options for Kris are clear, sign for a club and a set of supporters desperate for you to stay, take your chances in a two horse league for teams that chew and spit out goal scorers on a regular basis or be at the mercy of a free transfer which may result in a re-adjustment of what he would like to see in his wage packet each week.

In recent weeks you wouldn’t have paid £20 for the player let alone £20,000 for his on field output. Perhaps his mind has been elsewhere or he is incapable of performing when the team are not propping him up.

Maybe the Rams will have dodged a bullet if Commons is once again on course to fall away as he has for most of his career? Maybe Celtic or Rangers will get a bargain or an expensive Lemon for their cash?

Or maybe Kris will just stay where he is, ride out his contract and have to accept the best that comes his way.

For everyone involved it is a gamble but I for one would like to see the Rams and Kris meet each other half way, knuckle down together and look to get the Rams back on track.

Sadly I don’t see it happening!
