Recent interest in Peterborough striker Craig Mackail-Smith shown by Norwich City looks to have stalled. In times not so distant, under our previous Chief Executive, supporters would have been left trying to second-guess the facts, wondering if Norwich City had not gone in with yet another derisory bid.
How refreshing it is to be able to read David McNally come out and tell us like it is. It turns out that it is Peterborough getting greedy after first hinting that terms had been accepted.
Frankly, the London Road outfit looks to be trying to make capital out of the deal. In the past a fair exchange has operated between the two clubs Adam Drury was a bargain at the time we got him, and Russel Martin never broke the bank. Going the other way, Peterborough got the better end of the deal with Danny Crow and Joe Lewis. It seems like past dealings count for nothing, and this is going to come back in time to bite Peterborough on the buttocks.
Looking at what Paul Lambert already has, neither Simeon Jackson nor Aaron Wilbraham have been able to reproduce the prolific scoring achievements from the lower levels. Besides, if Lambert looks at what Cody McDonald has been doing, it would seem inconsistent to spend money on another striker unproven at this level, with an eye fixed firmly on the Premier League now. And Chris Martin was once said to have held the interest of Manchester United.
Firstly, thanks must go to David McNally for clearing up the question for City supporters. And perhaps Peterborough's greed may have done Paul Lambert a favour, forcing him to look inwards for a longer term solution.
