Scunthorpe's Shame May Help Norwich's Aim

Saturday saw Norwich City as runaway winners to Scunthorpe, by six goals to nothing. A scoreline that could have a considerable influence over next week's fixture and the automatic promotion places.

The new manager at Scunthorpe's Glanford Park, Alan Knill, is going to expect a major earth-change mfrom his inherirted squad. Regardless of who brought the players in, the manager could swing things 180 degrees very easily. Norwich City has experienced that when Paul Lambert inherited Bryan Gunn's players.

The important factor in the situation at Scunthorpe is the fact that the next team they must face is Queens Park Rangers. Okay, so QPR are miles better than Scunthorpe, miles better than most sides in the Championship. However, QPR will have a much harder job than Norwich City had of beating the Iron.

In fact, it would be worth a flutter going for Scunthorpe springing a surprise on Neil Warnock's men, who are still nine points ahead of Norwich after the 3-0 victory over Sheffield United last evening (Mon, 04/04/11).

That, along with Swansea's wobble at Priestfield last Saturday, could swing the favours in Norwich's path.

The title winning mood that has carried Norwich for much of this season, following the runaway success in League One after refusing to tolerate defeat, or even a draw, received a massive shot in the arm on Saturday. More than one pundit has compared the inbound loan players of Vokes and Pecheco to the last promotion winning loans of Peter Crouch and Darren Huckerby.

Even with the loan players, a hat trick each fro Grant Holt and Simeon Jackson will have opposing defenders at a loss as to who must receive the most attention when it gets down to marking players.

QPR look set to take the title, But Norwich players will not be happy to settle for second place. There will be no easing off of the gas pedal for the boys in yellow.
