Leon Barnett’s first goal for Norwich City earned a draw against Leeds United in a game that was full of entertainment.

It was enough for attention to focus on Leon Barnett’s future.

The central defender is on loan from West Bromwich Albion and is due to return on January 4th.

Hopes are that Norwich manager, Paul Lambert can extend Barnett’s stay, temporary or permanent.

Speaking after the Leeds game, Paul Lambert said: “I thought he was excellent. I think Leon Barnett has been huge for us and his goal was terrific and well deserved.”

On the prospects of keeping a hold on Barnett, he said: “He is West Brom’s player so they call the shots, but we will try.

“You are in a Catch 22 - you either don’t try it and he goes back and you accept mediocrity, which I don’t want to accept,” said Lambert.

With the Club’s finances well known to City supporters, most will hope for an extension to the loan for the remainder of the season.

Unless an instalment package to buy him can be agreed upon, or a real bargain obtained.

Leon Barnett is all for staying with Norwich. When the idea was put to him, he said: “I think I’d be stupid not to. There are a lot of players who would love to come to Norwich and I’m one of them, so it’s a possibility but we have to wait until January.

“It’s a great feeling and this is a massive team and we’re going in the right direction.

“I think it’s nice to be loved and if someone wants to take interest in you.

“But at the moment I’ve not heard anything and I have to wait until January and see what happens. I don’t know what’s going on.”
