Leeds United -v- Norwich City
Leeds United -v- Norwich City
Friday, 18th Feb 2011 10:44

Tomorrow afternoon will witness the 49th meeting of Leeds Utd and Norwich City, six of those in the FA Cup where Leeds have won two, three games were drawn and Norwich, one win.

Of the 43 league encounters, including last season in League One and several seasons in the Premiership and old Division One, Leeds narrowly have the upper hand, winning 19 games to Norwich City's 17, leaving ten games where the honours were even.

The last time Norwich won at Elland Road was that fantastic first ever Premiership season that Norwich City came so close to winning. That season City left a stunned Elland Road with four goals to two for Leeds' supporters to mull over.

The reverse fixture, back in November, ended in a draw that Leeds' supporters, manager Simon Grayson and players' all complained should never have been after Leeds' 'keeper Caspar Schmeichel was allegedly fouled by Chris Martin as Norwich equalised from a corner kick.

It was a feisty match, as most teams find when they play against Leeds. It was a game when former Ipswich Town player Alex Bruce cynically hacked down Grant Holt. Bruce was left rolling on the ground in need of treatment for an injured left knee. To rub salt in the wound, referee, Mick Russell showed Bruce the yellow card.

Tomorrow could see Leeds move ahead of City in the table that has Norwich in third place with 54 points, with Leeds two points and three places behind them.

The two sides match each other on current form. Over the last six league games, bith sides have won three, drawn two and lost once.

Two sides so evenly placed in the statistics table, and so narrowly spaced in the league table, promises an entertaining and vital game for all concerned.

Last season, in League One, Leeds fell away dramatically as the season neared it's end. City supporters must hope that history can repeat itself.
