Norwich City's match against Doncaster Rovers will go ahead tonight, despite Doncaster Rovers chairman John Ryman appealing to the Football League.

The rules state that Doncaster could call the game off but would have to pay a hefty fine for doing so.

Ryan then tried to make a case that his start players were injured and the paying public would feel cheated.

What a precedent that would set; would Manchester United turn out if Wayne Rooney was injured?

Norwich Chief Executive David McNally took a similar stance regarding precedents.

Speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk, McNally said: "There is nothing in the Football League's rules that would allow them to call the game off.

"Even if there was something within the regulations that allowed the game to be called off, what a tragic, dangerous precedent for the game that would be.

"There would be cases being made on a daily basis by clubs, heart-wrenching stories from clubs on injury problems. And it would be a farce."

Ryan insisted Doncaster is suffering exceptional hardship.

"I said to the Football League 'do you really think that's fair on the paying public?'," he explained.

"I wanted them to cancel the match.

"It's an unbalanced, unfair game. We're talking 13 or 14 players out here of a 25-man squad, with players hardly fit on the bench.

"I think it's about time football should stop being a 'dog eat dog' situation, which it is in the Championship, and should apply more sporting rules."

There will be no sympathy from the terraces at Carrow Road. The list of injuries has played a significant part in Paul Lambert's options this season.

Had the shoe been on the other foot, Ryan would be relishing the chance to get one over Norwich City at Carrow Road.
