Which Side Had 14 Injuries?
Which Side Had 14 Injuries?

Good old Norwich. Nice little place at the back of beyond. And if you are going through a rough patch where you can't buy a win, go to Carrow Road. They will let you have at least a point. Apart from Ipswich, of course.

Doncaster Rovers can now add itself to a list that includes the likes of Crystal Palace, Hull Leicester and Middlesbrough.

Doncaster, whose chairman wanted the game postponed because of their injury list, outplayed and outsmarted Norwich City.

What would the scoreline have been like if the 14 injured players had been available?

Norwich City manager, Paul Lambert takes time to remind one and all that Norwich was in League One this time last season, and how far the team has come in so short a time.

Nobody doubts that, but the lacklustre game at Carrow Road last night, against a team that wanted to call the game off because of their injury list, the best Norwich city could do was to pass accurately at the back.

Oh, they scored twice, just that one of those goals was in their own net. Had it been anybody other than Adam Drury and a rare mistake from him, it would be an even harder pill to swallow.

Grant Holt's volley after the 30 minute mark had crowds expecting another two or three if oly they could have capitalised on Doncaster's dismay at conceding the goal. But no, it wasn't to be.

Paul Lambert's policy of not naming names is a good one because nobody seems to carry added weight when the spotlight focuses on them. However, there are a few players that will be fully aware of their shortcomings last night - and not all of them lower-league players...

The biggest mistake was a lack of thinking. Think about where a pass is placed. Think about movement off the ball and think about making yourself available.

Think about when it is right to pass and right to shoot. Think about every single player having the responsibility of helping to get more goals than the other side.

It is beyond farcical, the amount of goalmouth scuffles that Norwich have had this season because the shutters come down, brains go into neutral and the ball is just punted ahead, regardless of which way the kicker is facing, and thinking about putting the ball away is abandoned. Just hit and hope.

Nothing is more frustrating for a supporter than to see pass after pass get intercepted because players fail to see that certain opponents will go that extra half yard if a pass isn't weighted enough.

Added to that, the failure to take on board that the tight passes are not working so either look for or crerate more space for each other.

All in all, the large Tuesday night attendance of 25,529 left mostly hurt, yes hurt, because the team, the team that we know is capable of much better football than the performance just witnessed, had let themselves and the supporters down.

The month of May seems too close for comfort, based on the show just played out.
