Jewell Hopeful on Sonko
Jewell Hopeful on Sonko

Town boss Paul Jewell is hopeful that central defender Ibrahima Sonko will be fit to face Millwall at the Den on Saturday after missing last week’s game with Crystal Palace due to his hamstring problem. Damien Delaney is more of a concern with the foot injury he suffered against the Eagles.

Jewell said: “It’s always a late decision on Sonko. He’ll be training this morning and hopefully he’ll come through that. If he comes through, we’ll see how he is tomorrow but if he’s fit, he’ll play.”

Irishman Delaney appears less likely to be involved against the Lions: “I would think he is very doubtful.

“The injury’s between the fourth and fifth metatarsal. I don’t think it’s a metatarsal injury, but that’s where he’s getting his pain and that’s where he’s had his injection.

“I don’t think it will be long-term. He just came in at half-time and said he’d gone over on his foot a bit and he’d twisted it.

“The physio’s put a steroid injection in to see how it settles down. This morning it might be lot easier than it was yesterday.”

The Blues are without Aaron Cresswell, who is suspended for one game after last week’s red card, with Jewell hinting but not confirming that veteran ex-Millwall man Mark Kennedy will take his place at left-back.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are reported to have sent Paul Scholes to watch ex-Town striker Jordan Rhodes in action for Huddersfield against Scunthorpe on Tuesday. The 21-year-old took his Terriers goals tally for the season to 13, plus five more for Scotland’s U21s, as the game ended 2-2. A number of other Premier League clubs are also said to be keeping a watching brief.

Huddersfield are claimed to want £5 million for Rhodes, who cost £850,000 when he moved from Portman Road in the summer of 2009, with the Blues having negotiated a sell-on clause at an undisclosed but believed to be significant level.
