First Injuries And It Ain't Even August

First Injury And It Ain't August Yet

Izzy is suffering from a recurrence of an ankle injury he sustained in the last match in which Brian Flynn was in charge back in March. He missed a month from there on in and it was generally hoped that the rest in post-season would actually help the injury heal.

However, just hours into the first training session of the season the former West Ham defender broke down meaning that they now have to look at an operation - a cause of action that was always the last resort.

Talking to the Evening Post, Physio Richie Evans explained "The normal process with this type of injury is conservative treatment and then an injection if that doesn't work. "We hoped in time it would settle, but since Izzy felt it so early on in pre-season we felt it was time for him to get the operation done." Added Evans: "Basically Izzy's got a bony growth in the back of his ankle which is causing some impingement. "We have had similar things in the past and he's looking at four to six weeks out."

Assuming the six weeks is a maximum Izzy could return for the Carling Cup tie against QPR on 24 August but with the door opened for one of the new signings to make an impression alongside almost certainty in the line up Alan Tate, he could find that he is facing a longer spell on the sidelines due to the competition for places now in the Swansea defensive line.

Lee Trundle was another one who limped out of training yesterday clutching his knee but Evans was quick to deny any suggestion claiming the injury was only a minor strain.

The pre-season friendlies haven't started yet and already the injuries are kicking in - maybe we need a faith healer rather than anyone else on the coaching staff.
