Swans Land Welsh Derby In FA Cup

Swansea City have been drawn away to Newport County in the First Round of the FA Cup in today's draw.

The draw threw out the Welsh derby and will bring back memories of classic league meetings of the past when it is played in two weeks time. The attraction of a Welsh derby may prove too much for the TV companies to resist as well with the kick off time very possibly being changed to accomodate coverage

The two sides last met in 2003 when Newport triumphed in the FAW Premier Cup, 12 months after the Swans put them out of the same competition. They have not met in an English competition since 1988 when the Swans were victorious 2-1 at Somerton Park.

There have been many League Cup meetings between the two sides but this is the first time they have come up against each other in the FA Cup. Previous results between the two sides can be found here

First round ties will be played the weekend of 10/11/12/13 November
