Leighton James has his say on the Ferrie Bodde Saga

James has pretty much joined everyone in wishing that Derby would put up or shut up as far as the saga goes with the saga - as reported in the Evening Post - now over seven weeks old and still counting.

We all know the following to seemingly be true

  • Ferrie wants to leave
  • Ferrie wants to join Derby County
  • Derby County want to sign Ferrie despite claiming that they don't
  • Swansea don't want to sell Ferrie but have a valuation for him in mind that could (stress the word 'could') change their mind

It all seems reasonably simple along the way.   The fee is either agreed or it isn't but the protracting along the way does little to credit either side in the process - least of all the buying club.

And now James - who played for both clubs - has stepped in with his view, telling the Evening Post

"It has gone on for far too long"There are arguments and counter-arguments. I don't think you can point the finger at one person or one club.

"But it is a messy situation that has not helped any of the three parties involved.

"Personally, I don't think it was a wise move to put a price tag on him. Swansea should have said he's not for sale.

"But this could have been handled in a different way, and the sooner it's sorted out the better.

"Ferrie is a very talented player and someone who could make a real impact in the Championship for Swansea. I think it would be wrong to sell him, because he has a lot to offer this club.

"The fans, I expect, would have a mixed reaction if he is still here come the first game.

"There will be some who would rather Ferrie go elsewhere after what he has said, while others will forgive him and hope he plays a big part in the club's future.''

And now even Leighton James is talking sense, it really is silly season.
