Swansea City have confirmed that the club have accepted a £2 million bid from Wigan for star striker Jason Scotland.

Concluding talks this morning, Swans chairman Huw Jenkins has spoken of his disappointment at losing Scotland . But with the lure of Premiership football a constant mainstay in the mind of the 30 year old it was inevitable that the Morvant born striker would relish the chance to link up with Roberto Martinez at the JJB.

Speaking on the clubs official site Jenkins also admitted that Scotland's prolific goal scoring exploits last season would have seen the powerful striker secure a move to the top flight, he said “He will obviously be teaming up with Roberto (Martinez) again, but even if we hadn't had a change of manager I believe Jason would have moved up a league anyway.”

Scoring 53 goals in his Swansea career firmly put the striker on the radar but Jenkins certainly does not begrudge Scotland the chance to play in the best league in the world, "He made no secret of the fact that he wanted to play in the Premier League and everyone at the club believes he has earned that chance. Obviously we are disappointed to lose Jason."

"I think it was inevitable considering his age (30) and his burning desire to play in the Premier League while he has the chance.”

"To score 53 goals in two seasons says it all and on behalf of everyone connected with Swansea City I would like to thank him for his efforts.”

It now leaves a gaping hole in the Swansea squad, however Jenkins has reassured fans that money received from the sale of Scotland will be invested wisely and before the season kicks off at Leicester, he added "I can also assure our fans that all the funds received from the sale of Jason will be reinvested into the club by Paulo. We will endeavour to do that before the season starts.''

"The fans can be reassured that the manager and his staff are looking to strengthen as soon as possible,"

The move is subject to Wigan securing a work permit for the player and completing a medical. The sale of Scotland will make him the clubs record transfer fee received for a player smashing the £1 million paid by Bristol City for Lee Trundle.

Scotland signed for Swansea City back in 2007 for only £25,000 from Scottish division 1 side St Johnston.
