Jason Scotland has explained his reasons for leaving to join Wigan Athletic

The Trinidad & Tobago international has agreed a move to the Latics pending a successful work permit, with a hearing date to be set soon.

Scotland scored 24 times last season, taking his total to 53 goals in just two seasons since arriving for £25k from St Johnstone.

Explaining his reasons for leaving for the JJB Stadium, the 30 year old says that the Premier League was just too much of a lure to turn down.

"It has always been my dream to play in the Premiership and I had to take my chance before it was too late," Scotland told the official site.

"I've had a great two years at Swansea and I would like to thank the club for the opportunity they gave me.

"I think I've repaid them with a lot of goals; an achievement I am very proud of.

"I'm also very proud of that fact that I've helped Swansea City progress as a football club.

"It was always going to be a tough job for me to follow in the footsteps of someone like Lee Trundle, who was a remarkable talent for Swansea. But I think in the end the majority of the fans had a lot of love for me.

"I had a lot of love for them as well and I would like to thank those fans for their support. I was never going to please them all, but that's football for you.

"I've loved my time in Swansea and it will be hard to leave, but to play in the Premiership is a dream for me and the majority of professional footballers."
