Gower Enjoying Central Role

Mark Gower is enjoying his new role in the centre of midfield meaning he is more involved in games

The Swansea City midfielder has found himself in a central role in recent games with Nathan Dyer, Tom Butler and Cedric Van Der Gun all being used in the wide positions.

And to cap that with his first competitive goal for the Swans and you have a very happy midfielder on your hands at this current moment in time.

Gower told the Western Mail “If you’re playing you’ve got to be happy and I don’t care if I play right-back

“I’m delighted to be in the team, but I get a lot more of the ball in that position.

“You’ve got to have greater discipline because you’ve got to track runners and there’s a lot more positional play.

“You can never switch off and it’s a bit more difficult in that sense.

“But I love it because I feel a lot more involved in the game and can get on the ball more.

“There’s a good mixture in there with the way Leon (Britton) breaks it up and the energy of Prats (Darren Pratley).

“I like to think I complement them with my quality on the ball, find some passes and link the play up.

“We’re dominating games possession-wise and it’s working well at the moment.

“I feel a lot more confident,” he said. “The goal was a long time coming but I can move on now.

“It would be nice to get a few more, but I feel my form has come together in the last few weeks and I’m playing the way I should. The goal has helped my confidence and I feel I can push on from there.

“It’s the old cliche, but once you get one or two goals in I think we’ll score a few more,” he said.

“We’ve got enough in the tank to know the goals will come, we’ve got players who can score and we look dangerous from set-pieces, so I think the system does work.

“The only thing wrong with the actual performance on Saturday is that there wasn’t a goal at the end of it.

“We played some good stuff and kept knocking on the door but it didn’t just happen for us.

“I don’t know if we were hesitant in front of goal but if you are defenders pounce on you at this level.

“We’re little more than one win away from the play-offs so there’s everything to play for,” said Gower, explaining confidence is high in the Swans camp after an eight-game unbeaten run.

“This is a division where anyone can beat anyone, so if you go eight games without losing you are doing something right.

“We’ve improved from early on in the campaign when we were leaking goals and losing points.

“Now we’re disappointed when we don’t win games so we’re going in the right direction.

“Every team is built from a good defence and we’ve conceded the least amount of goals in the division.

“The boys at the back have been terrific, hopefully we can get a few goals and it will snowball from there.”
