Roberto Martinez tipped the Swans for a good season after dumping them out of the Carling Cup

Two second half goals were enough to take Roberto's side into the quarter finals of the competition but he took time out after the game to praise the Swans.

"I think in any cup competition the important thing is to get through to the next round," Martinez told Sky Sports.

"But tonight I thought that we saw two really open-minded teams with a very clear idea on how to play the game and I think it was a very exciting game from start to finish.

"I think it had a little bit of everything, it was a really good cup game. I think that you can see that Swansea are going to have really good season in the Championship, and it's always good to get through to the next round."

Roberto also praised £6m striker Mauro Boselli who scored his first goal for the club in the second half and he added "You can see Mauro is a really confident finisher. A goal scorer in football is expensive and the hardest thing to find.

"He is a real asset to our football club but we need to be patient and fair with him. He is coming from a different league, different environment, different culture.

"If you look at the way he has adapted, the work-rate, the way he took the goal, it is very pleasing.

"I am sure Wigan Athletic fans will see the best of him very soon."
