Another away defeat for Pompey - but was this one different?
Monday, 27th Oct 2014 22:05 by pompey-fans.com staff

Andy Awford says Pompey's defeat at Shrewsbury was not merely an extension of their struggles on the road.

The manager felt it was a much more positive than has been seen away from home and he is convinced things will come good away from Fratton.

At least they won't have to worry about their away form in the FA Cup - theBlues have been drawn at home to Aldershot in the first round.

Awford was heartened by many aspects of the display in the 2-1 loss at the Greenhous Meadow. He told The News: ‘We deserved something. The club deserved a result for the team’s performance. The away record is awful and away results have been awful.

‘But I wouldn’t include that performance in that. It wasn’t like Southend or Bury, when we didn’t deliver. There was grit and determination but against Oxford we saw it out to a result. Saturday we didn’t and that is a bit harsh.

‘It’s totally different to the anger I’ve had at times. I take heart from that.’
