Count me in on job of getting Pompey where they belong Friday, 10th Jul 2015 00:02 by pompey-fans.com staff New captain Paul Robinson says he wants to play his full part in starting Pompey's rise back up through the divisions. The defender has been named skipper by Paul Cook and says it is an honour. He told The News: ‘I’m delighted to have the captaincy in a season in which we’ve got big ambitions. It’s definitely exciting. For the manager to hand over the armband is a real boost. It’s over to me now to make the most of the opportunity ahead. ‘He (Cook) said to me I will start the first pre-season game as captain and my performance levels will determine whether I keep the shirt or not — so it is over to me. All I can ask is for that opportunity and now I have to really put the hard work in throughout pre-season and get myself up to the kind of levels I am capable of. ‘I was captain a few times last year but only once I signed permanently did Andy (Awford) feel he could give me the armband. Ben Chorley was named the captain for that season and full respect to that. ‘I then came in and tried to impress Portsmouth, really just hoping to be part of something at this club. I was also skipper at Millwall, throughout my career I have always been more a leader by example. ‘Everything is moving forward at this club, they have made a big statement bringing in a manager of Paul Cook’s calibre with everything he has done. ‘They are very determined to get this club back where it belongs and I just want to be part of that.’
