Has Steve Evans been approached by other Championship clubs?
Monday, 4th Apr 2016 17:49 by Tim Whelan

The Yorkshire Post are claiming that our head coach has been approached by the owner of at least one club in our division.

Steve Evans is out of contract in the summer and there is no sign that Massimo Cellino is going to extend it, and there have been reports that Leeds United representatives have spoken to Fabio Cannavaro about the possibility of the former Italy captain taking over at Elland Road next season.

Evans seemed to be close to the sack after the 4-0 defeat at Brighton and again after the calamitous 4-1 home defeat by Huddersfield, even though we won all three of the matches in between. And although we were on top for a good part of Saturday’s game at Rotherham, a second successive derby defeat will have done nothing to enhance his job prospects in the long term.

So if any other club has enquired about Evans’ availability from August onwards, it would be understandable if he wanted to take the opportunity to ensure he remained in employment. The Yorkshire Post are reporting that a current Championship club have made an approach to Evans’ agent, which the big man ‘refused to deny’.

Evans told the paper “I’ve not had any phone calls. The people who look after me, what they’ve had is not for me to be talking about because I want to be the Leeds United head coach.” But even if Evans has taken the calls himself, his comment doesn’t mean that his representatives haven’t discussed the possibility of a job offer from another club.

Of the other clubs in our division, only Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest are currently managerless. Bolton would hardly be an enticing prospect, seemingly doomed to relegation and lacking the finance to turn themselves round, while going to Forest would mean changing from one demanding foreign owner to another.

But I suppose any job is better than none, and although Evans may not wish to leave Leeds for either of these clubs, he may have come to realise that he’s not going to have the choice. He might have eight games left to save his job, but the signs are that he’s got a lot to do to convince Cellino that he’s the right man to take Leeds forward.
