Saints Will Play Tottenham Hotspur At Wembley
Saturday, 27th Oct 2018 09:50

It has been confirmed that the fixture against Spurs on 8th December will now definitely be played at Wembley with the new White Hart Lane still nowhere near ready for use.

Spurs will stay at Wembley till January at least and possibly beyond after they confirmed that their new stadium is still not ready and won't be in the forseeable future, meaning that the debut back in Tottenham will be at least four months overdue from the original September 15th opening.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: "In light of factors completely outside of our control, contractors missing deadlines and possible future unforeseen issues, we are naturally being cautious.

"All home games will be played at Wembley Stadium up to and including the game against Wolves on 29 December."

Adding that the delay was an "immense disappointment", Levy said: "There isn't an hour that goes by when I am not asked when we will be able to stage our first game at our new home.

"I wish I was able to confirm an exact opening date and fixture.

"Whilst we are conscious of the need to keep pressure on our contractors to deliver as soon as possible, we are also acutely aware of how difficult the lack of clarity is for our supporters."

Put bluntly it was open knowledge in the building industry 9 months ago that the stadium was running months behind schedule and that although they had gone to a 24 hour work schedule it was still utter chaos and not getting any better.

It has cost Tottenham millions in lost revenue but the real victims are the football supporters, not only Spurs fans who had purchased season tickets for the new ground at a very expensive rate and still find themselves having to travel to Wembley with no idea of when they actually will be moving in to the new stadium and still don't with it likely to stretch on past January, but the supporters of clubs like ourselves who have no idea what arrangements to make for the game away to Spurs.

So it's Wembley again, and we can hope for a better Saints scoreline this time around.

Referring back to Nick's previous post anticipating this move.... I told my son (a project manager with a large building company) of the construction problems at WHL and he was astounded that such a large project as this didn't have anyone with oversight on the whole project. He said the real problems may not even have become apparant - YET.

Maybe we'll be at Wembley v. Spuds again - next season - who knows?
