Pitman leads way as Pompey go goal-crazy in pre-season opener

Pompey probably won't win too many games 11-0 this season so it's as well to make the most of anyone they do take by such a handsome margin.

It's fair to say no one will get too excited about the big victory over Irish side UCD but on the basis that you can only beat who's in front of you, there can be no complaints about the manner in which Pompey dealt with their first friendly.

Brett Pitman (3), Ronan Curtis (2), Louis Dennis (2), Jamal Lowe, Gareth Evans, Joe Hancott and Ben Close were on target as the Blues produced a clinical display.

Boss Kenny Jackett was delighted with the workout and told the club website: 'It was our first run-out of the season and we scored some good goals, while everyone got 45 minutes. We’re in the middle of what’s a hard week over here and we appreciate that UCD hosted us on a nice pitch.

'It was a useful exercise for us and one that we got a lot out of. It was like a training game at times in the second half, but UCD had their first team out before the break. Now we can all look forward to going to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday and trying to build on this.

'We need to make sure the new lads keep integrating and we want to hit the ground running as we look ahead to Shrewsbury.'
