Ronan Curtis is loving Pompey's switch to 4-4-2 - at least he is now he is one of those in the new formation.

The Irishman scored Pompey's third in a 4-0 beating of Northampton at Fratton Park and said the new approach was 'amazing'.

Curtis missed a couple of starts after some up-and-down form but said he'd been happy to wait for his chance, which came when Michael Jacobs was ruled out injured.

He told the Pompey website after the side's third straight league win: 'It was a good night for us. We knew what to expect from Northampton, but wanted to produce a great performance for ourselves.

'We’re looking to keep pushing up the league table and so we were really pleased to get another victory. We’ve switched the formation up to 4-4-2 recently and we’re feeding the strikers well, so it’s amazing.

'I hadn’t scored in the league this season. It’s been a long wait for me, so I was pleased to get off the mark. It’s been brilliant lately and all of the players know what to expect from ourselves and from each other.

'We’re flying at the moment and the important thing is we can keep this going and enjoy a bit of a run.'

Talking about his return to the starting XI he said: 'The boys had won a couple when I was a substitute, but you just have to bide your time and be ready. When that chances comes along you’ve got to make sure you take it and hopefully I’ve done that with an assist and a goal. Now I’m looking to kick on.'
