Williams Transfer Completed Friday, 10th Jul 2009 13:50 Ben Williams is now officially a U's player after the goalkeeper penned a contract earlier today. He moves from Carlisle United for a £60,000 fee (plus a 25% sell-on clause). The 26-year-old is believed to have signed a two-year contract and will be available to play in the U's friendly at Tiptree United tomorrow. Williams started his career as a trainee at Manchester United, but failed to break into the first team set up. In his time at Old Trafford he was loaned out to Altrincham, Chesterfield at Crewe Alexandra, and it was Crewe where he later signed permanent. He spent four years at Gresty Road, making a total of 148 appearances (147 starts/1 sub) for the Railwaymen. Last summer, Williams signed for Carlisle on a free transfer and made 36 appearances last season.
