Carling Cup fever returns
Carling Cup fever returns
Tuesday, 27th Oct 2009 14:01

As well as the first team are attacking this season, there is always an added excitement at the Grove for the Carling Cup as inexperienced players and fans come together, determined to enjoy themselves.

Frances Coquelin and Armand Traore have both been talking about the game against Liverpool and will be determined to make the most of their opportunity in front of a sell-out crowd. Coquelin said:

"I'm really excited, I'm waiting for it. We've got a chance. It's one game, anything can happen.

"I felt a little bit nervous but I really enjoyed the West Brom game and I hope to play against Liverpool.

The French midfielder has earned himself a strong reputation in the reserves and, with three central midfield places up for grabs, will definitely feature against Liverpool tomorrow night. His compatriot, Traore will also be looking to start the game and resurrect his stalling Arsenal career. He said:

“Last time I was injured for two weeks (before the West Brom match)," he said. "I only had the session before the game and I was a bit tired and couldn't really show what I can do. "I've stayed injury-free since that game and I feel really good in training, in the gym, and on the pitch."

Traore spent a largely unproductive loan spell at Portsmouth last season following Tony Adams’ departure from Fratton Park and has fallen behind Kieran Gibbs in the pecking order since returning to Arsenal. He is a fantastic athlete but Gibbs appears to be the more naturally talented footballer and at present, Traore has a lot to prove in order to prolong his career in north London.
