I Had A Dream

I Had A Dream........

So, despite a request pre-season that we should be at home on the last day of the season, the Swans will end their 46 game league campaign at the Vetch on April 30 as we have known for so long. So surely the script was written that if the last game wouldn't be at home then it would be a very special day on the pitch?

If you had asked me seven days ago would the last fixture be Shrewsbury I would have said a categoric no. And I suspect that many would have agreed with that answer. I know about the FAW Final and all that jazz but let's be honest, there is only one last fixture that everyone is contemplating. So let's picture this scenario.

Saturday April 30. The Vetch Field. 4.48pm. Swansea City 1 Shrewsbury Town 1. Lee Trundle is felled in the box and steps up to slot home the penalty. As he does so, the fourth official signals one minute of stoppage time which passes without incident. Swansea win the game 2-1. The pitch invasion, the celebration of the end of an era.

The tannoy sparkles into life. Scunthorpe have been beaten, the result is good enough to take the Swans into League One. The party steps up three notches. Season goal achieved.

Surely that is all written in the stars? The bad run of results was not as we thought, the team not playing well but the master stroke that ensured promotion wasn't earned the week before at Bristol. The run lasted so long because it took that long to let other teams get ahead of us and make it look as if we were pulling away. It was only planned to be four games but we never anticipated it would take longer.

Am I making it up? Of course I am but to be honest I can see it coming. We all knew the Shrewsbury game was very important to us but what better way to say goodbye to the Vetch then with a promotion. And you do just get the feeling that it will happen with a last minute goal. None of the coasting that we saw against Exeter in 2000 but a nail biter to ensure that the party reaches full swing at 4.50pm

The results of the last week have seen the ball swing back into our court and now the momentum lies with us. Well, us and Southend. Yeovil are stuttering, Scunthorpe have stuttered for a while and now the jitters have hit Macclesfield. Losing here last week will have an effect on them and it may take them another game or two to recover. At which point the damage may be done.

A glance at the current poll results on the site will show you that optimism is high and whilst we should not underestimate Cambridge on Saturday it is hard not to believe that we will be back inside the top 3 before the weekend is out. The team has momentum, confidence is back and we should build and use that to our advantage in the next six games.

Well, five really as that is when the party starts,

Dreams do come true, don't they?
