After the last four years, three relegations and more takeovers than permanent managers, I'd forgotten how to look forward to a new season.

Blues fans have finally been given the green light to be optimistic, after the shackles of previous regimes were released by the Pompey Supporters' Trust.
And the club's new owners were quick to show the Fratton Faithful just what they had bought into - just weeks after the takeover was confirmed.
Retaining manager Guy Whittingham was a boost for many, following his impressive 2012/13 finale as caretaker boss.
But to see a host of last season's stars eager to stay with the club, along with the arrivals of many sought-after, fresh faces, was more than many had bargained for.
And despite having to live within strict financial guidelines for the foreseeable future, the club have done plenty off-field to keep the most important signing - the fans.
Supporters will be flocking to Fratton Park in their thousands to see a young, hungry side who are playing for the shirt and their futures - not just their pay packets.
A refreshing sight as the club prepare for life in League Two, not with the monetary riches of seasons past, but with hope and optimism in abundance.
Finally, a chink of light on the club's tattered and well-worn armour, after what has been a turbulent battle since bombing out of the Premier League (what now feels like a lifetime ago).
Many Pompey fans have felt somewhat divorced from their club over the last few years, after seeing it being mishandled in the arms of a new, yet somewhat 'reluctant' lover.
And like in many false and one-sided relationships, there was plenty of money spent, tears shed and love lost as Pompey were left penniless.
However, the club's loyal supporters still remained; waiting in the wings to pick up the shattered dreams - ready to rebuild.
And that they have - as once again, stands a proud football club who are ready to take on a new challenge, with the full backing of the city's custodians.
Full credit where it's due to the new regime - doing everything in their power to not only revitalise links between club and community, but also making football accessible for the future generations.
It may not be the greatest, most attractive football and of course, there's no guarantees of success, but there's always one certainty - it will always be their club.
Of course, there's still a long way to go to win everyone around - but for me, the Trust have certainly given substance to their aims and promises...
...When can we say we last saw that from a former owner?
Plenty of room for excitement and anticipation and pre-season approaches, and I certainly can't wait to see the new chapter really start to unfold.
