Striker happy to move down to move up with Pompey

Striker Craig Westcarr is Pompey's newest recruit and had no qualms about dropping down a division after leaving League One side Walsall.

Westcarr has scored 79 goals in a career that started at Nottingham Forest and has included spells at Cambridge United, Notts County and Chesterfield.

He told the Pompey website: 'I’m very happy to be here, I can’t wait to meet all the lads and to start playing for Pompey. I had a chat with the gaffer and the chief executive, but they didn’t really need to sell me this club because it’s so big.

'But it was refreshing to hear their plans and what they’re looking to achieve here. What they had to say made a lot of sense. They made me feel wanted and that I had a part to play.

'Hopefully we can have a successful season and finish higher than last year, while also forming a good team spirit. I’m confident that I can score goals and I think I’ll have the right people alongside me to do just that.”

' played here quite a few years ago, so I know what the crowd are like and what to expect. You want to play in front of big attendances and hear that roar from the crowd. If we win a few games then the place will be rocking.'
