Jubliant Joe redeems himself for Pompey

Pompey scored three in a league game for only the second time this season as they earned a much-needed win against Stevenage.

Jed Wallace, Miles Storey and Joe Devera were the goal heroes - Devera after an error gifted Stevenage their second - on a night when a committed performance by the Blues did much to banish the memory of the insipid display at Bury at the weekend.

The victory lifts Andy Awford's team back into the top half of League Two - they sit 11th, and just three points off the play-off zone, ahead of Saturday's tough-looking trip to Shrewsbury, who beat Bury.

The visitors went ahead on 23 minutes as a Dean Parrett corner was not dealt with by the Blues defence and Dean Wells volleyed it home from close in.

Pompey responded well, as they needed to, and Wallace was denied by one good save from Chris Day before he beat the keeper with a low shot after a Pompey corner fell to him.

Awford's men felt Day was lucky to stay on as he appeared to handle outside the box before the break but that didn't matter too much as he was beaten twice more in the second half.

Storey scored his first league goal for Pompey on 57 minutes after a neat pass by Danny Hollands played him in.

But Stevenage were level on 74 minutes as Chris Beardsley took advantage of a weak back header by Devera to make it 2-2.

The defender redeemed himself three minutes later by lashing in a left-foot shot from the edge of the area after a throw-in was played to him.

Pompey held on without too many scares to the relief of all in blue.
