When Pompey's team take to the field at Luton, they'll be playing for the futures - with boss Andy Awford planning another squad shake-up in the January transfer window.
The dismal Boxing Day defeat to AFC Wimbledon left fans disgruntled - and Awford vowing to make changes, admitting the performance was simply not good enough.
He may make changes to the line-up who play at fourth-placed Luton but wider-ranging alterations to his squad will come in January, and that seems certain to include a number of players leaving.
Awford told The News: ‘We have got to have a shake-up, definitely. The squad is too big anyway and we have a budget to stick to. So, when the transfer window opens, we are going to be looking to do something.
‘I’ve had a chat with the coaching staff and a meeting with the board. They know what we would like to do and it’s reliant on some going out. I’ve looked but the good players are in teams — but we are going to do something.
‘It’s going to be about unearthing players who can come in and have an impact on the team. Maybe we will have to take a punt on some players.’
He said of the Dons defeat: '...no-one comes away with any credit. We win as a team and lose as a team. I had a go at half-time and gave them a caning. The second half was better and you are hoping we can get one and the crowd come with us. We have lost to two sloppy goals, so no-one comes away with credit.
‘We were getting on the front foot and were pushing the full-backs on when Dan Butler got sent off. The fans are backing us. There’s a few songs and what have you but I get that.'
