Blues are mad for it to grab Hatters point

Pompey followed one of their worst results of the season with one of the best - banishing much of the memory of the home defeat to AFC Wimbledon with a battling draw away to promotion hopefuls Luton.

Ryan Taylor cancelled out the Hatters' opener and Pompey gave as good as they got, and might have come home from Kenilworth Road with all three points with a little more luck. As it is they can be satisfied at having ended Luton's long winning run at home.

With Johnny Ertl and Andy Barcham back in the sides for rare starts, Pompey started well enough but found themselves behind on 13 minutes when a cross by Shaun Whalley was converted by Luke Rooney.

Ertl went close to an equaliser before Jed Wallace's cross was poked in by Taylor to put Pompey level.

Barcham had a couple of chances to put Pompey into the lead, while Luton had their moments, as you'd expect of a team in such good form at home, but it finished all square.

Blues fans heartened at the result would have been further boosted by the sight of James Dunne returning from injury off the bench towards the end.
