Defender disciplined - but not sent packing

Josh Passley is through with being late - and is now in line for an early return to Pompey's starting line-up.

The Fulham loanee has been fined by Andy Awford after the latest in a series of timekeeping problems saw him turn up 25 minutes late for last Saturday's clash with Shrewsbury, for which he was dropped.

Now the matter has been resolved, he seems likely to slot back in at right wing-back at Carlisle on Saturday.

Awford told The News: ‘We have drawn a line under it and moved on. There has been a fine and he has been disciplined internally. ‘We have Fulham’s full backing on that as he is our loan player and not a permanent player.

‘It’s finished now, I don’t need to say any more on it. I wasn’t very happy on Saturday, so spoke to him on Monday and he is now back in the group and available for selection.

‘He has apologised but actions speak louder than words for me, so he has got to back that up with actions — and he has trained well all week. ‘If I hadn’t got the right response from him there might have been a different outcome, make no mistake about that.

‘As it is, it sends a message to everybody. It was a breach of discipline and we can’t have that. You need all your good players and if you look at the record of the team when Josh has been in it, it is has been good.’
