Pompey title favourites already? It's nonsense

Paul Cook sends his Pompey team out against Morecambe insisting it's 'nonsense' to call the Blues title favourites after just three games.

The manager says he can't believe rivals are saying Pompey will run away with the title, because no-one can have seen all teams play.

As Pompey bid to make it 10 points from their first 12 against the Lancashire side, Cook told the club website: 'Some of the comments about us I’ve heard from other managers have been quite startling. We’ve played three games and are apparently the best team in the league — it’s amazing.

'These managers must have watched every other team in our division because I certainly haven’t and I try my best to get to games. I think it must be good in management today to load stuff onto other people and that can deflect from how much you’ve spent yourselves and the aspirations of your own club.

'We should all just concentrate on ourselves — I’ve certainly never known any side to be the best in August. We’ve gone from where we finished last year to all of a sudden being the greatest after just three matches! I’ve never heard such nonsense in my whole life.'

Ben Davies is out of the Morecambe clash and Cook has not revealed who will take his place at right-back.
