Paul Cook takes Pompey into game nine of 46 admitting League Two is a mixed bag of teams that he has yet to work out.
The Blues have been given by problems by a couple of sides they perhaps would not have expected to, and won more easily against others than predicted.
Cook will be happy with his team having racked up four wins and four draws from their first eight games but he admits he still doesn't quite know what to expect.
He told the club website: 'There doesn’t seem to be any consistency to any game we’ve played this season. That can be tough for a manager because you never know what the next match is going to bring.
'We’re coming up against a lot of different formations and tactics — as well as good players. But our players keep finding a way to get out of trouble and they deserve plenty of credit for being able to do that.'
Loan goalie Aaron McCarey will make his debut against the Gas while midfielder GFary Roberts is still a major doubt with a knee injury picked up a fortnight ago against Barnet. But few changes are expected from the side who drew at Oxford last week.
