New Pompey recruit delighted to link up with 'honest' boss

Pompey's new loan recruit Caolan Lavery says he had no hesitation in linking up again with Paul Cook.

The striker has joined from Sheffield Wednesday with Pompey light on options up front as Jayden Stockley and Adam McGurk get over injuries.

Lavery, 22, told The News: ‘I know Paul Cook from a previous loan spell. I had a few offers from other clubs in higher divisions but they sold me here, it’s a big club and I decided to come.

‘I enjoy playing for him, he is a very fair manager, he will be good to you when he needs to be good to you and will tell you when you are not doing what he wants you to do. As a player you just want a manager to be honest with you and Paul Cook is definitely an honest manager.

‘He seems to get the best out of his players with good man-management skills. It’s always good as a player when you know what you are going into because it can be tough to go into a team without knowing anyone, the set-up or how the manager works.

‘Knowing the gaffer I am well aware of exactly what I am going to get from him. I also know Gary Roberts from Chesterfield, Brian Murphy from a long time ago at Ipswich, Boco from a loan spell at Plymouth and Kyle Bennett from being in and around Sheffield.

‘That is another reason to come down here. I didn’t get a chance to speak to them before making the decision, I didn’t need to, I know what I am going to get out of the gaffer and what training is going to be like. I didn’t need anyone else to back up what I already knew.’
