Daggers capable of hurting Pompey's three-in-a-row bid

Dagenham and Redbridge may be on the bottom of the Football League - but Pompey boss Paul Cook reckons they represent a big threat to his side's hopes of winning a third league game on the trot.

The Blues head to East London knowing victory is essential if they're to keep on the tails of the automatic promotion favourites and Cook said the Daggers' win over Morecambe in midweek shows they are not to be taken lightly.

Cook told the Pompey website: 'They’re fighting for their lives and had a good win on Tuesday night — there are no easy games in this league. They’ll need to win the majority of their fixtures, so one thing we can all look forward to is watching two sides going for the victory.

'They’ve got good players and an experienced manager in John Still. Anyone thinking we just have to turn up on Saturday is very foolish. It’s a massive banana skin and we’ll just prepare as professionally as we can, go there and do our best.”

Cook is hoping Pompey do get that third straight league win - for the first time this season - so everyone can 'move on to a different stat'.

He added: 'We’re really looking forward to the game and are trying to push ourselves into a situation that some people didn’t think we could get to. It’s a long season and people’s opinions will change, but we’ve just got to keep believing that we can get to where we want to be.'

Pompey have no new injuries ahead of the game and are expected to be unchanged.
