Wycombe come to Fratton Park tomorrow - and if they leave having been beaten, Pompey will all but have confirmed a play-off spot.
That is the best realistic hope now for Pompey after they appeared to blow any lingering top three hopes with defeats to Plymouth and York.
Boss Paul Cook, who has numerous injury concerns, told the Pompey website: 'We’re all disappointed after what happened at York on Tuesday night and the emphasis now is on winning games to cement a play-off place rather than an automatic place.
'I’m not being defeatist, but our level of performance has offered so much and delivered so little at times. That’s disappointing, but it is what it is and it makes Saturday’s game vitally important for us.
'Securing three points will go a long way to being in the play-offs, so we’re just concentrating on facing Wycombe and seeing what that brings. We’ve got to regroup and look to achieve something that we set out to do at the start of the season.'
Pompey follow this game with another against a play-off contender - they go to AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday.
