Let's move on... with thoughts of our away form

Pompey must head to Cambridge with thoughts of recent away performances - not recent home games - in their minds.

So says Gareth Evans, who says it's important the Blues quickly get over their second straight home defeat, inflicted by Notts County on Saturday when Conor Chaplin's goal could not prevent a 2-1 defeat.

The home struggles are in contrast to Pompey's efforts on the road, where they picked up three points at Leyton Orient and one at Plymouth in between losing to Doncaster and the Magpies on home soil.

Evans, who has been playing at right-back since Drew Talbot was injured, told the club website: 'I don’t think we got the rub of the green with some decisions — I think the whole ground could see that Tom Davies got pushed for the second goal. But I don’t want to come out and make excuses because we should have put the ball in the back of the net.

'We were really encouraged with the away performances at Orient and Plymouth, and came into the game full of confidence. So to not take away any points is a disappointment and we need to try to move on quickly ahead of the next game.

'It was pretty flat afterwards and it’s hard to stay positive, but you have to bury it before you return to training. We can’t afford to lose much more ground and we can’t keep saying that we’re going to go on another run.

'You have to stop talking about and actually do it, hopefully starting with a tough trip to Cambridge next Saturday. If we play anything like we did in our last couple of away games then I’m sure we’ll get the result we want.'
