Rose outlines how Pompey can do a Northampton

Danny Rose has a simple formula for Pompey being able to 'do a Northampton' and secure automatic promotion - he says they just need to win, win, win.

It sounds obvious but the point the midfielder, who played for two of last season's promoted teams, Northampton and Oxford, is making the point that a run of victories can change everything.

That's something Pompey have not managed to do since they won four on the bounce in the early part of the campaign, but Rose says it's what they must aspire to do.

Even in the recent run of three wins from six, Pompey didn't win two in a row.

Rose told The News: He said: ‘People talk about team spirit and how do you generate that? The one thing which does that is winning games. You win, you feed good. You win another and feel even better.

‘It just snowballs and at Northampton it was into something pretty special. To go unbeaten for the final 24 games of the season you just feel confident going into games as a team.

‘Individuals can have a bad day. No one is going to be an eight or nine out of 10 every week.

‘We used to say if we don’t win a game we can’t lose it. That was the mentality at Northampton. If you can apply that mentality you’ll nick enough wins to be successful.’

Pompey go into Saturday's home game with Leyton Orient in fourth spot, but just four points off a prized top three place.
