Would coach's loss hit Pompey's push?

Concerns have been raised over the effect on Pompey's promotion push if coach Ian Foster quits Fratton, as he is reported to be set to do.

The News reported on Wednesday afternoon that the 40-year-old - the third man in the trio also containing Paul Cook and Leam Richardson who lead first-team affairs - wanted to move on after receiving an offer of a new job.

It came to light after he did not, as would be expected, manage the Blues reserve team who took on Wolves in a Premier League Cup game at Telford on Tuesday night.

The News said: 'It is understood the 40-year-old has been offered a job elsewhere and is interested in taking up the opportunity. Foster informed Blues boss Paul Cook of developments in the aftermath of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Wycombe.

'He subsequently did not carry out his customary duties of overseeing the reserves for Tuesday evening’s trip to Wolves under-23s. In his absence, Academy under-18 coach Mikey Harris took the side for their 4-2 victory, which lifted them to the top of Group D in the Premier League Cup.

'Foster’s willingness to consider quitting Fratton Park represents a blow to Cook, who has moulded a tight backroom set-up.

Foster has been with Pompey since May 2015 when he reunited with Cook and Richardson, who he had worked with at Chesterfield.

Meanwhile Pompey won 4-2 against Wolves and now top their PL Cup group. Nicke Kabamba, Kal Naismith, substitute Dan Smith and an own-goal secured the win in which Conor Chaplin was MoM.
